Cannot get past login! where do i go from user@localhost ??

Help please
Just loaded Mandrake 9 as a dual boot with XP. All goes well but when I get so far with Mand. I end up after putting in my user name and password with a command prompt saying user@localhost. How do i get from there to a useful user interface please.

Hmm, usually Mandrake will load X on startup. There is an option during setup to make this happen.

However, from the command prompt, you could try several commands. The most common is probably 'startx'. That will put you into the default window manager. Use 'gdm' or 'kdm' to bring up a login screen where you can choose your preferred window manager (like KDE or Gnome).

Try startx and see what it does. If there are problems, try the command XFdrake and try to set up your graphical interface that way.
