I have fedora 11 running and am trying to connect a laptop running windows xp as a dumb terminal. I have tried to use hyperterminal and an old terminal emulator anzio that I have. I cannot get a login. I can echo something from the linux box to ttyS0 and it will show up on the dumb terminal screen, but no login. This happens on both terminal emulators.

I am using a null modem cable.

I have goggled how to do this and have followed all the instructions that I have found.

My inittab entry looks like this:
s0:23:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L 9600 ttyS0 vt100

when I run ps -ef |grep agetty
this is what I get
ty06 1484 1411 0 16:23 tty1 00:00:00 grep agetty

from what I can tell this is my problem I should have a entry for the ttyS0 port.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried Putty? I can talk to HP, Solaris and Linux correctly with that.
Can run ssh, telnet.

No I have not tried to use putty. But I have it downloaded and I really want to connect via the serial port and I cannot see where putty will allow this.
