Cannot get Digital Camera recognized
I am plugging a Canon Powershot A75 into a USB port on a Fedora Core 3 machine with Gnome - hoping to capture photos to the hard drive of the computer.
When I try to Autodetect the camera from within gThumb 2.4.2, I get the following message: "An error occurred in the io-library ("Bad Parameters"): Could not find USB device (vendor 0x4a9, product 0x30b5). Make sure this device is connected to the computer." (FYI ... the camera works fine when plugged into a Windows machine.) Any help out there? Thanks. |
Have you tried mounting it as USB storage?
Plug it in and then type dmesg. Post the output here, but only the last 15 lines or so, not the whole thing! |
Also the above but you should be able to get it working with gphoto2.

Also, dmesg gives me a lot of lines that are all the same (after turning the camera off and on) and they read: sym1:0:0:phase change 6-7 11@37373b84 resid=2. (and I am not even sure if turning the camera on causes these messages.) ps - it seems to post as a smiley face but that is not what I get I get (I will try this) without the spaces: sym 1 : 0 : 0 : phase change .... I hope that helps in being clearer. |

I need more from your dmesg output....anything that relates to /dev/sda or something?

No output from dmesg except that one line over and over and over.

Still no success on getting the computer to recognize the camera. Is there a method to test if the USB device is working or not?

I struggled with a couple of different cameras on a couple of different distros and didn't have any luck with any of them, and then I finally bought a lexar card reader and it works. I had to mount it manually in mandrake 9.1 but on 10.1 official I just plug it in with a card inserted and it mounts it automatically. This works on my laptop and my desktop. hope this helps.

Still cannot get camera to work with USB
I still cannot get my Digital camera to work with my Linux machine. Canon A75. Fedora Core 3
Is there a method for testing if the USB port is actually working? The camera works fine on my Win XP machine. On the Linux box it is completely non-responsive. Any suggestions? Thanks. |

Thank you for responding - I read the articles you sent. They may be a bit dated, as gThumb lists the Canon A75 in their list of camera models to choose from..
When I open gThumb 2.4.2, I select File / Import Photos - the dialogue box indicates: No Camera Detected. I then double click on the No Camera Detected Icon and it brings up a Camera Model selection dialogue box. I select Canon Powershot A75 as the model and it fills in the port as usb: I then click on OK and get the error: "An error occurred in the io-library ('Bad parameters'): Could not find USB device (vendor 0x4a9, product 0x30b5). Make sure this device is connected to the computer." The device is connected, and the camera is on. If I take the camera over to my Win98 or WinXP machine, it works fine. I am stuck at this point. |
Make sure the camera is being seen. As root do;
cat /proc/bus/usb/devices It should be listed. |
I get the following when I run the command you suggest:
[root@localhost usb]# cat /proc/bus/usb/devices cat: /proc/bus/usb/devices: No such file or directory When I do an ls command from within /proc/bus/usb , I get nothing as in: [root@localhost usb]# ls [root@localhost usb]# Since it is not listed, I assume it is not being seen as you mention, but I don't know how to make it 'seen' - can you suggest more?
