Using Ubuntu Intrepid 8.10, I cannot figure out how to export mail in Evolution or Kmail. I cannot drag and drop mail folders. I basically cannot do ANYTHING to archive my mail.

Where can I find the message store for Evolution?
Where can I find the message store for Kmail?
How can I archive the messages to an external HDD?

I will be reinstalling Ubuntu Intrepid in an attempt to get my sound working again.(sound failed after uninstall and reinstall of CompizFusion) I would HATE to lose all my mail. Anything you have to help me archive my messages would be appreciated.

evolution:
file -> backup settings => will create a tar file.

this works
