Cannot Detect Disk

Hello all, I am pretty new to linux and I am trying to install ubuntu onto my laptop. My problem is when I boot from my flash drive my laptop's hard drive cannot be found.
I have tried sudo fdisk and finding it with gparted.

Any suggestions?

Are you trying to run Ubuntu from the flash drive as an "in memory" live demo-type mode?
This is worth doing as it won't overwrite your disk but allows you to check that things like video, sound and wifi work properly.

There is an icon to click if you want to proceed with a full install to disk.
Is this where you get a no-disk message?
