Cannot connect to internet (Wireless nor Wired) after Hard Reset
Hey everybody,
After some wonderful times in using my laptop running ubuntu 9.04 as a router for my xbox, I had to do a hard reset after a freeze.
Unfortunately, now I cannot connect to the internet using a wireless nor a wired connection!
Any ideas...I have a feeling I'm not the first person to whom this has happened...
Here are some outputs:

As you could have probably guessed, I've tried getting help on this before (many of those helpers asked me to post those above commands), but I've not yet been able to resolve this problem.
Thanks in advance,

Ok...
I have the same problem. After a kernel recompile i cannot get on the internet.
Try typing "/etc/init.d/network restart" at the terminal.
It did not work for me but maybe you will have more luck.

You could try bringing, as root, the wlan0 interface down and then up:
# ifdown wlan0
# ifup wlan0
# iwconfig wlan0
# iwlist wlan0 scan
# ifconfig -a
NB the first command may fail - don't worry about it - it just clears the ifstate
the second command brings it up, the third command should show the essid (access point name) you are connected to, the fourth scans for all aps within range, and the fifth shows what IP address your wlan0 interface is linked to and whether it is transmitting and receiving
PS I don't have an Xbox - is that a four letter word coming out of Redmond?

Yes, the Xbox has indeed spawned from the depths of Redmond. Thanks though, I'll try that a little later.

I just noticed something that may be of importance. The network manager says I AM connected to a wireless network, but when I open firefox, I get a message saying it can't find the server.
I have a feeling firefox may be the culprit here. I haven't tried to access the internet with anything else, so maybe that's what I should do.
Edit:
Just tried a wget to see if it was firefox alone, and no, it's definitely something higher up. Errgh! If I can connect to the network, might it be DNS settings or something? How can I reset those?

K, I just finished trying that. It says it got new settings for my IP, I tried firefox, no luck. I reboot, do dhcpcd, ifconfig wlan0 down, ifconfig wlan0 up, nothing.
Any more ideas?

Okay, from the output of your post #10, we can see that a) the wireless card is working because the scan is working, furthermore the ifconfig output shows that it is transmitting (TX) and receiving (RX), what confuses me is why the iwconfig wlan0 output shows no Link quality, signal level or noise level, whereas the scan does.
in a terminal console, can you ping 192.168.1.1 which should be the IP address assigned to your knuteson router/access point?
