Cannot change samba server settings

I am logged in as root and it will not let me change any settings. I went into the smb.conf file using vi and it let me set the os level but it changes it back to 65 when I go into yast and make changes. I cannot change any setting in the Samba server expert global settings.

There is a Window server already set up right now and I don't want to mess it up while I'm trying to set up user accounts and email on the Samba server.
Please help me!!!!

My apache2 was working until I started working on the Samba server. Now it give me this error

starting httpd2 (prefork) (99)Cannot assign requested address: make_socket: could not bind to address 192.168.0.200:80
no listening sockets available, shutting down
unable to open logs

Hey
Is the Suse firewall running?

amyree 10-13-2005 01:44 PM

no it says that it is disabled.
ok it will not let me check the status of the firewall in the command prompt. It says permission denied. But I enabled it in YAST.

Is this a feudal effort, because it really is feeling like it right now?

Hey I guess talking yourself through things helps sometimes. i got the Apache back up again. All I did was change the ip address, who new.
Still having trouble with Samba. Open for suggestions.

i've never used yast or suse for that matter, but are you able to edit the conf file manually? with <insert editor here> when you open yast it sets to 65? that seems strange, but are u able to reset it through there? or when you change it either way, it keeps going back to 65?

It helps if I read the whole message, I don't know why I only saw the geek code the first time I read the reply.

It will let me edit it if I'm in the command prompt but it will not when I'm in the file or in YAST. There is a place to edit it in both those locations but it will not let me. Even when I change it in the command prompt editor vi, it goes back to the default setting.

I did get my apache to run finally, but I know I have to figure out how to change the settings. I thought being logged in as root would guarantee privileges but apparently not. Please, I'll take any suggestions. I've already thought about pulling an office space on the computer, but I need the job.

Thanks
