Here it is

using RedHat 7.0 I use the internet conection thing to set up a ppp connection. It calls in and the ISP answers and it completes the handshake and all then for some unknown reason I get disconnected.

I really would like to know what is going on.
I am using an external 56K modem.

I can, however, make the connection work with all the same settings in RedHat 6.2 but I use the Network Conf program that you can get to from the program called Conroll Panel. Using this I can setup a ppp connection and it will connect with out any problems. I also get the same problem with kppp and the log only says that it was unexpectedly disconnected.

What ISP are you using? Sometimes for your username when dialing up, instead of like johndoe, you can try the full email address for the username like

But it sounds to me its more of a problem on the other end than yours especially since yours is dialing out, then it tells you, you were unexpectedly disconnected. Might want to check with your ISP if they have anytype of support online for using Linux to use their service.
