Cannot Boot Mandrake 9.1, HELP!
I installed Mandrake 9.1 alongside my Windows XP on my computer this afternoon. I created a boot disk, and used "fixmbr" in the Windows XP Recovery Console to bring things back to the nt-loader. I found out the boot disk doesn't work, what should I do? Can I use the Mandrake install disks to boot linux and reinstall lilo or grub? How? Any ideas?
I went into the console from the Mandrake CD, typed in "grub-install /dev/hda," at [root@rescue /]# and I got the following error(s): /usr/sbin/grub-install: line 1: sed /usr/sbin/grub-install: line 1: uniq /usr/sbin/grub-install: line 1: sed /usr/sbin/grub-install: line 1: sed /usr/sbin/grub-install: line 1: sed /usr/sbin/grub-install: line 1: sed /dev/hda does not have any corresponding BIOS drive. |
i think you can use the rescue mode in your mandrake cd...

Ugh, that sounds like what happened to me. I tried to install Mandy 9.1 numerous times (it was my first distro). I'd go thru the whole process, make a bootdisk, get ready to reboot, and [deflate] no hard drive boot. Then [deflate lower] the boot disk would freeze on L and begin to display 01 01 01 01 01....
I didn't have nearly sufficient experience to fix the problems. I wish I could be of assistance here. I thought I read something about updating "drakconf" after installation (but before reboot) to resolve the boot disk problem. I can't remember where I read it however, so I may be giving garbage advice. I couldn't test updating to combat the bug, since I didn't have a web connection. RH solved my Mandy problem. Someday, I'll learn how to get 9.1 working though :D. |
Red Hats works fine for me... i used Mandrake 9.1 but i switched back to Red Hat... :)
