Cannot Boot Into Windows Or Debian

Summary: Installed Debian/Linux to Windows 10 Dell laptop a few weeks ago and I’m having major problems. Debian will not boot and neither will Windows. I do not have a Windows recovery disk. I want to find another way.

Debian:
Stuck on boot screen at “Started update UTMP about system Run Level Changes.”
Advanced options gives same message before logging in for maintenance

Road blocks:
E: Write error: 28 no space left on device
So cannot install anything to try to fix issue
Cannot delete anything as the no space left error appears again

Windows: Useless except able to access boot menu setup

Please help me solve this without Windows recovery disk. Thanks

Without a full description of your partitions, assuming you had Windows and tried to install Linux on too small of a partition.
Any live Linux would allow you to see which partitions are still okay. Run gparted and check the partition usage. Or just get GParted.
SuperGrub2 would allow you to boot windows if possible.

Use a Linux recovery disk, also known as Live media. You boot the Live disk (usually a CDROM, DVDROM or USB stick), then mount the partition that contains the file system that is 100% full and find files you can delete.

How to find that partition? Use commands like lsblk or blkid that list all your disks and partitions, and guess what's on them.

Now, there is a chance that the partition you installed Debian on is simply too small. In this case, you may have a hard time finding good candidates to delete, and the problem may occur again next time you boot.

On the other hand, you should also be able to download a Windows recovery disk. It's probably considerable larger than the Debian one.

I had a directory labeled “/“ I was able to switch to and it has space. Just ran update and upgrade. Failed to fetch several links. I’m guessing they don’t exist anymore. How do I get them back

Currently fetching gparted. Unable to fetch some archives. Running fix missing

Since that computer can't be booted, you need to use the Live version of GParted, which you can run even when the root disk is unbootable.

The web site says
Quote:

To install GParted Live on CD, download the .iso file and burn it as an image to a CD.
So don't worry for archives and just download the ISO and burn it. Of course, that requires a functioning computer.

I found gparted searching apts not sure how useful it is.
Since I can now download, what do I need to run to recover missing files or would that fix anything at least to let me boot into Linux

doh 12-17-2018 08:10 PM

Cannot run fix missing command

So neither Debian or Windows will boot, you switched to "/" and ran update and upgrade but it did not fetch links. Now you can download and wonder how you can boot into Linux.
I have to admit I have no idea what you are doing.

I’m sorry. I wasn’t paying attention. Apt tries to download but every single file attempted shows as failed. But I do have storage available now just need to know how to use it

There is a button that looks like a paper clip. It should allow you to attach pictures, text files and others.

If that button is not there, click on the Go Advanced button. I added a picture.
