Cannot boot; Segmentation Fault Error

My RedHat 9.0 does not boot. After the Grub menu I receive the message that The default font has been set [OK]. Then it tries to mount the prof filesystem and it fails. I receive the error: Welcome to /etc/rc.sysinit: line 70: 35 segmentation fault.

Mounting proc filesystem failed.

I tried to start the system with the original CDs, went into linux rescue mode, gotr to chroot /mnt/sysimage and I can see all of my data. It get an IP address but I can ftp to save some of my critical data. HELP!!!!!!

some questions if I may
Did you compile a new kernel?
Did you edit your fstab file?
Irrespective of those replies could you post your /etc/fstab file.

I am thinking (well almost) that its either a mount issue and fstab will give clues or its a kernel issue.

I am sorry but I gave up waiting for a fix. I searched the web and saw a few similar problems where there wasn't any fix.

I was able to boot from a CD with "linux rescue". Then I started the ftp deamon which allowed me to ftp my data to another computer. Once I had my data I re installed the server.

To answer your question: no I was not doing anything with kernels or anythink similar. I was logged in as root and was doing a lot of php and mysql.
