cannot access the internet on newly instaled fedora
I am new to linux and have just installed fedora 13 onto my old PC. Everything is great apart from the fact that i cannot access the internet. My isp is TalkTalk, they do not support linux, and have suggested that i contact the Geek squad who might be able to help me for the princely sum of £30. i think that all that i need is the ip address for my Isp or something equally simple and my problem will be solved. failure to resolve this issue means that i might have to go back to windows.
The machinery that i have is an emachines 3210, 2.70 GHz, a Dlink wireless router, i am using a cat 5 cable plugged directly into the back of the pc, i am using fedora 13. ps my son is using windows and is connected to the internet still via WiFi. Can anybody help, i have wasted 2 days on trying to resolve this problemm myself |
Sounds like you need to configure the network card... please open a terminal and run '/sbin/ifconfig -a', this should tell us whether the network card is detected at least

network
Your net. card may not be detected but this can be replaced. '# ifconfig' should tell you your ip address, if the card is detected. Take note and then run DHCP from the GUI.

I have Fedora 7 around here but I hav,nt run it for ages,I am on Sabayon and if I right click the two little tv's I get the option to edit connection,so dos,nt Fedora 13 have something similar... ! by the way I prefer Open DNS.

(from memory) Right-click on the Network Manager icon and select "edit connections", on the wired tab if you don't have something like 'system eth0' then click add, otherwise select it and click edit. The default settings should already be DHCP but you may need to check "connect automatically" and "available to all users", let me know if my directions are garbage and I'll double check
