hi all,
The problem i've been getting of running Vlc player has been solved when I login with user account other than root.
The problem I have noticed is that, Package kit is displaying error when I run it as a privileged user(root).
It says like this--"Running graphical applications as a privileged user should be avoided for security reasons.
Package kit applications are security sensitve and therefore this application will now close."
Even then I am not able to open 'add/remove software' programs getting the same reason.
But when I login as a unprivileged user it asks for root password & runs beautifully..
Could u please suggest the possible way to thwart the error????
Could u please suggest the possible way to thwart the error?
You need to understand the hint that if applications tell you to not run things as root account user that you should not do that instead of trying to find a workaround. Use root for configuration and maintenance and do everything else as unprivileged user using the mechanisms already in place for doing stuff that requires root account rights. For some people doing things logged in as root constantly seems like a great idea and it's only their first major fsck up that reminds them why others told them not to.
But can there be any way around !!!!
Could u plz tell me the possible problem due to which it is not allowing me to run applications & how to get rid of it!!!
hi all,
I've installed F10 on my desktop. When i used to use F8 or F9 i login with "root" account but since i've installed, it denies me as an root user(although, password is correct) but when i login with other account it grants me the permission.
I'd like to login as a privileged user ,please help me to make it happen?
Another problem i am encountering is that Mozilla Firefox 3.0.4 is not displaying the progress bar.
F10 blocks root logins to the GUI because it's a security risk. If you do a search of LQ, you will find a workaround, but as previously mentioned, it's not a good idea.
