Can the terminal use ttf fonts?

I've downloaded a few fonts from this website http://www.dafont.com/

The fonts got installed without any issues and I can see them from the word processor and similar writing programs when choosing a font.

I decided to change the font of my terminal by going to the edit profile > appearance > select font. But the new fonts were not listed in the list.

So, is it a path issue or does the terminal can only use specific font formats? Thanks

WHICH terminal program? there's 100s of terminals.

Generally speaking, terminals don't use ttf fonts. I am presuming you mean X terminals, but they are a copy of tty console programs whose design dates from the 60s or 70s. They use the fonts in /usr/lib/kbd/consolefonts

usually terminals use fixed (monospace) fonts, and also letters cannot overlay each other... (for example I could install and configure the font monofur). I have gnome-terminal.

I am using Konsole in a KDE environment. I think both of you are correct, X terminals can't use ttf fonts because I copied the ttf fonts to the /usr/share/fonts folder as root, and it still isn't listed to be used in X terminals.

It was worth a try anyway. At least, they can be seen and used by other applications which is more important than having fancy fonts in a terminal.
