Can start x as root only

Since i installed Linux one month ago, I am not able to start x as a normal user. If I am logged in as root it works perfect.

The error message i get is:

Fatal server error:
Cannot open log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log"

Would be very nice if anyone could tell me what to change.

hmmmm....not sure......

maybe you can try touching the file, just do:

touch /var/log/XFree86.0.log

if this dont work then give your user permissions to the log file, eg:

chown user file

Re: hmmmm....not sure......

Thanks.

After a short look i can tell you, that the logfile was where it should be. Owner and Group is root, others have the right to read the file.
So, i think i dont believe this errormsg.
