Can not write to Samba share from Windows
Good Morning,
I am a teacher at a small school in WA. I am trying to set up a Fedora Core 6 file server for the students/teachers to access. I am trying to use Samba. All of the student machines are Win2K or XP. I have set up accounts on the Fedora machine for /usr and have a share set up in the /tmp directory. However, when I try to write to the share from my XP Pro machine I get the red X box with a windows warning: Cannot copy "test"(file name) make sure that the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use. I have a feeling that this is something simple that I am overlooking, but I have been overlooking it for several days now and am quite frustrated. I have logged in as root and set the permissions on the /tmp/test folder to read and write, I have identical user names on the Fedora and Windows machines and even changed my XP computer name to match the login. I would appreciate any help! williams402 |
I am one step ahead of you on the samba learning curve. I got it working by setting the permissions on the share directory to 0777 (anybody can do anything ie read write execute).
Check this thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...irrored+drives There is some good info there from some other folks. Don't give up, keep plugging away, you are real close, JP. |
Thanks...it finally is working
I logged in as root and changed the group permissions to usr instead of root for that folder. Now it is working great. Thanks for the link and encouragement.
