Can not save old computer

My old computer ran xubuntu and I haven't recently remembered the password. When I go to recovery mode, I see no recovery menu that would lend me to changing my password.
I have also tried burning xubuntu, edubuntu , and a few other linux distributions , but they have all failed in the burning process. I have used three iso burners and they have all failed to burn.

These problems have been going on for a while and I am so lost and scattered. I appreicate any help. thanks

When the computer boots, interrupt the grub menu countdown and select the option to edit the kernel arguments. Add a space then 1 to the end of the line, and hit return.

The computer will now boot into single user mode as root. You can then change the existing users password using :

passwd username

reboot and you can then use the password you just specified for that user.
