can not run video files downloaded from the net
 
i can't seem to play any videos streamed from youtube,f1.com and video files which i have downloaded.
do i have to download a specific player?

i've downloade music files and have been able to play them with out any problems



i'm running ubuntu 8.04, kernel linux 2.6.24.-19, gnome 2.22.3

You will need the win32 codecs additional package and flash player. There must be a guide on the ubunto wiki.

install mplayer and all ( including the win32)
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/news.html
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/releases/codecs/ ( all-20071007.tar.bz2 )

and for flash videos
install adobe flash

all of the above should have prebuilt binaries in the ubuntu repos
