Unhappy can not open/modify files and folders

Yeah, firs day with RadHat Enterprise 3.0, and linux as a whole ...
For some reason I can not open folders like: root, lost+found, etc.
also can not modify files outside /home/user_name folder all it is saying me is :" You do not have enough permissions to blah-blah" or "unable to enter file:\\root .You do not have access rights to .. blah-blah".

where can I give those rights to myself? or what have I done wrong?

this is all so far, sure will have more questions later :0)
thanks much.

Look for a little app called "file manager super user mode." It should be under the hat, System. Using file manager super user mode, you can blah-blah all you want, but take care. You can bork your system comletely if you delete the wrong thing.

As for \\root, there is no such thing in GNU/Linux. Maybe /root.
