Question can not detect or mount cd-rom on ubuntu (server) 6.06.1 i386

So I am trying to install ubuntu server on to a sony vaio laptop (long story in and of itself) I have a few questions the first and most important being this:

1. What is the module and /dev/ I am supposed to use to get it to recognize the drive? It kind of dumb because it can't read the drive that it's installing from ya'know? The drive is a sony nec optiarc AD-7560S the vaio is a VGN-NS110E all stock equip except the hardrive.

2. Keeping in mind that I may..probably will move the hdd to a netbook what are ALL the module I will need to finish the install and how do I add them in (can I use a usb or do I have to re-burn the iso)

3. What do I need to do to get the built in remote desktop to run once the install is done and most of the software is taken care of. Also I need to be able to install stuff from the remote computer and said remote computer may be holding the program. I am also looking into rdc-ing from my andriod (tmobile g1) so if you have any suggestions for that it would be of great help

Any reason you don't want to use a newer version?

You mount it as an iso

/dev/cdrom /cd iso9660 ro,user,noauto,unhide

mount /dev/cdrom

I never like to move hard drives. It can be done but could create a very difficult to find problem or 5.

There are many remote ways. Choose one and then repost.

I have an LTS till 2011

Oh I forgot to say I'm going to install windows and kubuntu on to the same hardrive so how should they be partioned. The important part about this is that I should be able to r+w between all three systems. I don't need to dual boot just be able to see and write over the files. When needed.

As for the mounting:

I tried during the detect/mount stage of the install with no avail but I may not have been typing it in correctly
Maybe you meant as a boot param? Either way what's the structre tree for doing so.

So you know this is the list of modules they give me during the detect/mount stage: none, aztcd, cdrom, cdu31a, cm206, gscd, isp16, mcdx, optcd, sbpcd, sjcd, sonycd535

The mentioned Sony notebook is way to new to be supported by this old kernel (2.6.15). I would assume that you have to use a newer kernel, or a newer OS. Why don't you upgrade to a newer LTS, like 8.04, or for this laptop better 10.04? You know that they are free?

I'm thinkin that you just maybe right, the old one probably doesn't have support for sata drives (which is what the cd drive is) but if I do this can I assume all the software I downloaded to go with it will be usuable on the updated version? Also can you tell me where to place the software I want installed at on the cd and what to edit so that it automaticaly installs?

What software are you using? Is it software from the Ubuntu repos?
You can search for the software in the repos using this site: http://packages.ubuntu.com/

To make customized Ubuntu Install CDs have a look here:
