Can not boot after using universal us linux installer

Hello !

This is my first post in the forum I am posting this question on behalf of my friend who do not have an internet connection.

"using universal us linux installer i installed lupu 528 on hard disk partion 3(Using Windows andon "E" drive).then i modified boot.ini for select options and added an option directing to Edrive.then i restarted and it crashed.it boots the hard disk LED stays on and blank black screen.

Then using Knoppix live cd boot into the system but can not use the commands like"fdisk -l,mount,ls..).Thank you

Sorry, is this a distro? Never heard of it. Does it come with grub? All of the working dual-boot configurations I have seen loaded from grub, not the Windows bootloader.

It is Puppy Linux.

Don't know what that is? Booting a Puppy CD, clicking on the Menu icon with the Puppy icon in the lower left of the Desktop, moving the mouse up to Setup and over to Puppy Universal installer should take him through the steps to install. If he can boot the Puppy Lupu CD, then open a terminal and run fdisk to get info to post.

May be 'universal usb linux installer'. But installing on the hard disk in this manner and modifying boot.ini is not usb installation but frugal hard disk installation. You may get more help on puppy linux forum.

I apologise for not giving all the details.I asked him to send me the details and I posted what he send.

@ thezerodragon

As TobiSGD pointed out it is Puppy linux distro.
He was using universal usb linux installer ,a software for making linux boot from usb.but instead of doing it from USB he choose E drive partiton.

@yancek

He do not have puppy live cd, but puppy linux image for booting from USB.He had Knoppix and Damn Small Linux Live CD, but while booting using live CDs,it is not booting properly(he did not gave me the details).I think it can not use X windoows, only text that too with minimum shell utilities.

@ all
He now used Live CD based on Windows and reinstalled windows boot loader on MBR.So I guess he is ok now.May I mark this thread as solved?

Thank you for your time and patience

Ajith
