Can not access my hard drives with live cd

Hi

I was using windows and it crashed so I got R.I.P live cd to rescue the files in my hard drives.

My hard drives are found in "emelFM2" (file manipulation software of R.I.P) as sda(main hdd) and sdb(external hdd). And the partitions are found as well as sdX1, sdX2 etc. everything is fine until now, but the size of those files are shown as "0" and they are shown in orange colour and I cant access them. Can not open the hdd to see the files inside.I can't open "/etc/fstab" to see if hard drives are mounted or not. And I dont know how to log in as superuser, it asks for password but I dont have any.

thanks for any help

Shouldn't mounted filesystems be listed in "/etc/mtab" instead of "/etc/fstab"?
The LiveCD asks you for the root password even if you just type "su" in aconsole?
Perhaps, if your Windows-partition is formatted with NTFS the NTFS-drivers of your R.I.P cd are not up-to-date?
I usually use Knoppix as a liveCD - might work better than your R.I.P..
