Can I share my /home directory..

with two seperate linux os's? I don't have alot of harddrive space and I wanted to try multiple os's at one time. If this is possible which two os's would go good together? I currently have RedHat 9 installed. :)

whatever you want to install will work....and you can share the home directory if you give it its own partition...i doubt you could if it was on the / partition on redhats install....but someone may make a liar of me.

This is one of those few directories and partitions you can share usually with no problems at all.

trickykid 08-28-2003 01:45 PM

Yeah, should have mentioned it would need to be on its own partition.

Directorie{s} ?? Which other ones? And which distro would go along with RH9? I was even thinking of trying out FreeBSD...any reason why not to? Thanx in advance. :D

You can always share swap and /tmp usually as well with no problems.

Shouldn't have any problems installing any distro along with Redhat. And yah, BSD is an excellent choice if you want to try out another Unix variant OS.

Yes, you can share your "home" partition - you'd typically put an entry for the partition in the /etc/fstab file in each dsitribution and mount it automatically on boot up.
