Can I run a 32 bit distro

Hello, I am new to Linux, I hope this is not a stupid question.

I am running a Dell 1501 (laptop) with a Turion 64x2 I gather I should run a 32 bit version on it as opposed to a 64 bit.... Am I right?

Also will it use my "duo core?"

Thanks in advance

You can run a 32-bit distro on your machine, but you don't have to. If the kernel has SMP enabled, then I believe it will make use of both processors (or cores).

There used to be a large number of issues running a 64bit version of any distros and many still talk about them (out of ignorance). The vast majority of those have been cleared up. With any machine with over 3gb of memory, you are far better off running 64bit. Below 3gb, it depends on what you are doing with the machine. Like just about any other decision in life it depends on you.
