Can I install windows 7 on two virtualboxes
 

After many years of using linux only, I've come to the realization that I need a windows operating for programs not ported to linux.

I will be buying windows 7 oem to be installed in virtualbox.

Is it possible to install windows 7 again in another computer inside virtualbox? I understand virtualbox doesn't see our real hardware as virtualbox has it's own internal hardware and should be identical, right?

Reading the link at microsoft below, it would seem the answer is no. Two installations, two licenses according to the site although it doesn't specifically address virtualization.

Some other sites indicate that if you purchase the install media rather than an OEM install, you can install on multiple machines but they cannot be installed at the same time. You would likely be better off asking at a windows forum or going to the microsoft support site.

I'll probably do that. Install windows 7 on one VM and install again in another VM maybe two months later.

You should be able to install once, and clone that VM...

Note that the host OS can be wither Windows or Linux (possibly anything else that can run VBOX), but that the limits are legal. The technology can handle solutions, but Microsoft licensing is quite restrictive.

You may not want to answer this, but what is the application? It would be optimal if it could run under ReactOS, Wine on Linux, DOSBOX, FreeDos, or another OOS option that would not create a restrictive licensing situation.

I'm still thinking about buying windows 7 as I've been using linux exclusively for many years.

If I do buy windows 7, it's to use the Evernote client app in windows. Evernote is not available for linux. There are a few alternatives to Evernote for linux and I tried nixnote but it didn't support syncing to my Evernote account in the cloud.

Evernote is available for android, IOS, Windows, Mac, Blackberry and the web/cloud.

I don't like using Evernote on an android phone as my eyes and fingers get tired working from a small screen.

Maybe I could buy a 10.1" android tablet and have a better experience with Evernote and not have to buy windows just to use Evernote.

I am confused. The current nevernote (spawn of nixnote, I believe. I am not a user) from http://nevernote.sourceforge.net/ is reputed to be a full clone of evernote INCLUDING sync. IT has some slight differences due to API restrictions and design philosophy, but it works and has many fans.
Does that not work for you?
I might go through the users guide (available as PDF online) and make sure I have set up sync.

I have also heard that EVERPAD is good, though I read less about it. That might be that it has fewer fans, or simply that I frequent different forums than they.

I see reports that EverNote DOES work under wine, but I prefer not to use Wine as long as there is a native option.

If all else fails, the web interface is supposed to be pretty good, and under continual improvement.

I didn't know it was on extended support. However, I don't want windows 8 nor 10. Extended support is fine by me as windows 7 will hardly be used, I use linux daily for all my needs.

The alternatives are OK, maybe. I also use a firefox add-on called Evernote Web Clipper and this only works on a genuine Evernote client app from the desktop and on the cloud.

I tried to install Evernote via wine as well but wine or Evernote couldn't access the internet during the installation.

Right now, I have no choice but to use the cloud based Evernote client which works with the web clipper.

I really don't like using cloud services. I like keeping my stuff locally on my machine. :/
