And also I believe the reason why you can't find xvesa is because debian might be installing xvesa as a meta-package with xorg. Can you verify this? I don't have a debian system with me right now.

It would appear to me that Debian does not have xvesa in it's repos.
There is the vesa driver:

http://packages.debian.org/lenny/xse...org-video-vesa

But it still has a dependency on xserver-xorg-core

I did a search for packages beginning with xv:

http://packages.debian.org/search?se...es&keywords=xv

No xvesa,however one possibility maybe xvfb:

http://packages.debian.org/lenny/xvfb.
