Can I install iTunes on Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon?

Hello Linuxquestions and the many contributors:
I have reviewed previous posts on the Linux/iTunes conflicts, and, thanks to the many helpful posts on the subject, have decided to revise my plans for rescuscitation of an IBM G40 Laptop (pre-Lenovo, but amazingly still supported by Lenovo), and I will leave an unprotected Windows XP os on the G40, install iTunes including my complete 12-year accumulation of music and podcasts and selected videos, using the G40 as a server on a residence-wide wifi. Not an easy task, but workable and a challenge for retirees, right?
But I have recently become interested in Raspberry Pi and all its ramifications, including the necessity to learn Linux as a means of working around the Microsoft/Apple prohibitions.
I am presently experimenting with "Kodi" and "OSMC" media programs on Linux Raspian- versions on Raspi Model B Pi2's. These both allow importation of music libraries into their respective media players. If successful, the iTunes library will be transferred to a WD Passport to replace the IBM G40.
The major benefit of all this monkeying around will be learning Linux coding and a return to life on the command line.

Welcome to the forum. I use itunes on my windows computer, but I don't know about linux. Hopefully someone else will be of more help.

Edit; Linux Mint, Cinnamon is a very useful operating system, although there is very little that you actually need the command line for.

jehop,

Welcome to LQ.

Basically the answer to running iTunes in Linux is no.

Have a look here for possible alternatives:

If you really absolutely must use iTunes, then installing it in a VirtualBox Windows VM on Mint would do the trick. In order to keep things running smoothly, I would recommend a minimum of 4GiB RAM, 2 for Mint and 2 for the VM when it's running.

Can I install iTunes on Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon?

offgridguy,
beachboy2 (beach:West Wales? really!)
hydrurga

Thank you. These replies are a good distillation of the information on the boards here and elsewhere.
I have just received the Linux Mint 17.3 Repository (OS Disk.com Inc supplied) and surely in those 12 DVDs I will find the appropriate programs including what has been recommended to avoid messing with MSApple.
This will keep me busy for awhile.
