Can I change the permissions of /etc/fstab to 640?

Hello.

I have a username/password combination that's in the fstab to mount a CIFS share. Can I change the permissions of /etc/fstab to 640 without violating the integrity of my system?

Thanks in advance.

Ray

no, you can't do this, look at the "credentials" option for mount.cifs instead.
