Can anyone tell me what protocole is being used?

When you connect to another machine using the Ubuntu GNOME file explorar, what's the protocole that is being used?

Hi lishensi - Welcome to LQ.

Could you provide some context in order to help us better assist you ? What are you looking to accomplish and what is your current setup (computers, hardware, software, network ...).

FWIW, it's probably nfs or samba, but it depends ...

Cheers.

Hello!
Thanks for the fast answer.

Right now I am working with a Virtual Machine. I studied about Ubuntu and CentOS last year and now I was just trying to widen my knowledge, and, in time, abandon Windows.

Last week I had a look into FTP, SFTP and SMTP, and I was just wondering what protocole is used to remote connect to another ubuntu machine.

The option I am using is the "Connect to server".

Welcome OriginalPoster! Great to see you studying! Here's some web-search ideas: #1:
connect to another machine using the Ubuntu GNOME file explorer, what's the protocol that is being used?
BUT #4: what protocol is used to remote connect to another ubuntu machine using "Connect to server"

Maybe "File Manager" File->"Connect to server" will 'allow' you a choice of 'these':
ftp/ssh/smb/webdav/? (vnc/rdp? LQguru: are these ALL the URL xxx://<host> possibilities?)

I don't use 'GUI' (only CLI, via telnet/ssh), so I'm not sure, sorry. (which leads to: my?)
p.s. MY ?: ios app to display gui of linux mint X11 running from .iso, on an ipad
