Hi, I'm desperately looking for the driver rt5390 for ubuntu but mediateck doesn't have it and I can't find it anywhere need help please.

We're happy to help, but you should read the "Question Guidelines" link in my posting signature. You have not given anyone enough details to be able to help you...we don't know version of Ubuntu you're using, or what you've tried so far. Just putting that model # and "ubuntu" into Google pulls up the Ubuntu forums from four years ago, with complete instructions on how to get it to work. Chances are it should already work, since that kernel patch was put into the system. How do you know it isn't working??

Also, that's a fairly old adapter...have you considered spending a few dollars, and getting a new faster adapter?

I would agree with TB0ne, it's important to provide many details as possible. Please read the first two links in his signature. ;)

Also, please open a terminal and post the results (not a screenshot, please) from this command...

This will give us more information on your adapter's chip and if there are any modules currently running. This might just be a firmware issue. Also, please give us the brand and model (and model number of your computer) and the version of Ubuntu you are running. ;)

As TB0ne has also mentioned, purchasing a newer, "Linux friendly" adapter might be easier (and better) than using your current one. You can find examples here.

My computer is a hp dv7 6160ep with ubuntu 15.10 but I want it to 14.04 too if you can.
I tried every thing I could find but it kept saying that could not find or that name was not at the repository, etc

No problem, but think about what you're asking in a different way. If you were to call someone to fix your car, and the only thing you told them is "I have a Ford Escort and its not working", do you think they'd be able to help? This is the same thing...when asking a question in a technical forum, just saying "I have xxxx network adapter on ubnutu", tells us nothing to let us help you.

...what do you think that tells us? You STILL don't tell us what you tried, or WHAT kept saying it could not find, (or what the 'it' couldn't find). We need DETAILS, like the exact error(s)/message(s).

Why wanting two versions of Ubuntu, first off? Stick with the most current version.

And based on what you posted, your adapter is detected, and the module is loaded. What, exactly, have you done to configure it? What desktop environment are you using?

...and why did you ignore what I asked, OP? I specifically told you that it appears that your adapter is ALREADY getting recognized, and there is a Realtek driver already loaded. Again, how have you tried to configure the interface??? What desktop environment are you using???
