Can a normal user logon as root on Xandros?

I have tried the su and sudo passwrd command in console, but when the prompt shows password: I am not allowed to enter anything. I have to open a new console to enter anything. Is their something I need to change as root?

How do you mean, not allowed to enter anything  I'm not familiar with Xandros at all, but when you type e.g. su root, it will prompt you for a password. Are you saying that it does not allow you anything (how do you know?) or are you saying that you don't see anything while you type the password?
The latter is normal as it prevents revealing the password to a curious observer.

I thought it show somthing to indicate I was entering the password, but your are right it does not display anything. I just started using Linux and I am still learning the very basic things such as how to install programs and using the console.

Just one of those annoying little things you have to learn. Most of the world goes "*******" as you type your password. The typical Linux terminal just sits there. I have no idea if there is a way to change it.
