More input, please?

We don't know what type of server, what deskop/windowmanager
you're using or how you mounted it.

Cheers,
Tink

Hi,
The last answer is completlity true but nevertheless you may try to do this command as root

In gnome I went to connect to a custom server. I typed in the IP address and hit enter. This created an Icon but nothing else, I was successful in connecting when I connected to a windows share. The problem is that now in the "Places" menu and in the desktop I have to Icons, one is the working smb and the other does nothing at all, when I right click it gives me no options in the drop down menu.
