I'm new to java world.

When I type "http://localhost:8080/" in the browser, it redirects to HelloWorld page instead of Tomcat Welcome page.

How can i go to welcome page.

Could any guru help me?

Seems like you didn't install Tomcat correctly.

Without giving any details about your configuration, what version/distro of Linux you're using, what version of Tomcat, and what you did to install tomcat, it's hard to give you any help.

Check the index page in the Tomcat default directory, and see what it's set to.

My linux version is 2.6.22.14-lustre
(gcc version 4.1.2 (Red Hat 4.1.2-13)

Tomcat is 6.0.16.

I am not the one who installed tomcat and
Which one is Tomcat default directory : /usr/local/Apache-tomcat6.0.16 or /usr/Apache-tomcat6.0.16 ???

We did try to uninstall Tomcat
using :

./uninstall.sh
and also other ways we found from net.
But it gives us the same error "Missing target component" in a dialog box. The error is :
"The specified target component - tomcat/6.0.14.0.0 was not found in the registry. The installer can continue as if the target component was not specified."

I found one way to view Tomcat welcome page when u type "http://localhost:8080" in a browser.

I found that if there is no ROOT folder under tomcat default path /webapps, I can't view the Welcome page...

I don't know why the ROOT folder is not there. But I think it's cos of installing error.
