can't install or uninstall debian pkg

Hi - I just took delivery of my new server with webmin installed, and did an apt-get upgrade, which promptly broke webmin (which was already at the latest version). Now I can't apt-get install it cause I keep getting an error message:
/usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

..same thing happens when i try to apt-get remove it...

any ideas?

What's the entire error message? Don't you get more than a simple error code 1? You can try if one of the force options in dpkg deletes it. I remember I once found the file which has all the info on installed packges. You could delete it out of there but that can kind of screw up your installation. I can't find that file anymore though

this is what i get if i do apt-get remove webmin:
