Can't install downloaded google/launchy/Ubuntu 8.04

I downloaded .deb files, but on clicking them nothing happens. I tried sudo dpkg --file name, still nothing.

Ubuntu 8.04 has reached its "end of life" and is no longer supported, therefore it is difficult to install new applications.

If you use the current 11.04 release, you can easily install most applications with a few clicks of the mouse using the Ubuntu Software Center.
