Hi I'm new to Linux and just trying to set up Suse Peraonal 9.1 for the first time. Everything seems to be going well except I cannot get the driver to install correctly for my internal PCI modem with Intel 536 chipset.
I have tried searching web forums and google but so far although Suse detects the correct modem I just can't complete the install. As far as I can tell I have Kernel v2.6.4
First of all I tried installing the driver from the Intel website intel-536ep-4.69-suse91-up.tar
but this would not allow me to install as I did not have the "make" command.
I then downloaded the necessary RPM command for make and this works except that when I use the second line in the Intel instructions 'Make 536' I am told that it cannot find autoconf.h and I should install the kernel.
I have now downloaded the kernel and unzipped it to /usr/source/linux
after this I typed the following lines in shell:
cd /usr/include
rm -rf asm linux scsi
ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/asm-i386 asm
ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/linux linux
ln -s /usr/src/linux/include/scsi scsi
I still get the same error message looking for autoconf.h, unfortunately I am having to type this mail in Windows so don't have exact error message details.
I have been unable to find autoconf.h or anything similar on my HDD or Suse CD, where can I find this??
One website suggested typing make config but this failed
Any suggestions????
Cheers
