I am new to Linux and decided to start out with the latest version of Mandrake.
Everything installed fine for me. But it just so happens that for some reason it wont connect to the internet. I tried auto configuring it. I tried manually configuring it and I had no luck since I have no idea what I am doing.
I have a syntax mobo with an embedded Realtek RTL8139 ethernet. I checked the driver and linux has the right one it seems. But it still won't work.
I have no idea what to do. Also I should mention that I use a router so I don't know if that creates any problems. My router doesen't have any very strict firewall settings to my knowledge.
I don't know if this will help or not, but I have a Realtek pcmcia net card on my laptop. It uses the "8139too" driver. For some reason it didn't work during installation. After the install, I opened the Mandrake Control Center, and re-ran the network connection wizard. It was detected and configured properly then. I have it behind a hardware router/firewall and it works with no problem. I use dhcp for connecting.
basically I just tried to auto detect my ethernet card in the control center. It shows that my eth0 card is there. It just says its not connected. What exacally should I look for in the CC to try to conifgure?
Reboot into XP. Run "ipconfig /all" copy the information (IP address MAC address, protocol etc.) Reboot into Mandrake Control Center and use the Expert mode to enter the information. Have you configured your firewall yet?
during instalation, did you choose lan as your connection type or one of the other options? my first distro was mandrake and I found that even though i would walk through and input everyhting properly my best luck was with the lan option. You should be able to change this in the control center. Just a thought
