Can't boot comp

Hey,
I'm trying to just get something to work now... As you might've seen in my other threads, I was having problems with my monitor working with Linux, and now the computer won't work at all (with different monitors). It's giving me completely different errors each time, such as:

Quote:
error 2: reading header cpio: bad magic
Followed by:

Quote:
Install exited abnormally: signal 11
Another error I've gotten is:

Quote:
<0>Kernel Panic: attempted to kill init!
Those are both when I try to run the installer from the CD, even though Linux is already installed on the computer. When I try to boot normally, I get this error:

Quote:
Uncompressing Linux...

crc error

- - System halted
Can anyone tell me what could be the problem(s) causing my system to keep from booting? I'd really love to stop using Windows, but Linux just seems to dislike me.

System specs:
256 MB RAM
6 GB HD [partitioned 256 MB swap and rest as / partition]
Pentium II processor 333 MHz
32x CD-ROM

This may help.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/history/86412
http://www.redhat.com/archives/redha.../msg00306.html

Note you have to read that last one backwords. The question is usually on the bottom and the answer on top. I think. Maybe I'm dislexic or something.

Post back if that don't help.

No, both things I've already tried before. And even if my kernel is messed up, I can't get anywhere to recompile it anyways...

Any other suggestions? I have installed Linux before on other computers (and this computer) but suddenly nothing's working... :-/

As a last option, can anyone recommend another good Linux distribution besides RedHat and where I can download a copy?

Thanks,
- Smiley

Yeah man get debain, just download the basics to a CD then you can use apt-get to get everything else u need once ur up and running
i use to use redhat, and i was very disapointed and a friend pointed me towards debain. I have been happy since.
