Can't access Applications folder

I get this error message

View Failed
The Catalog view encountered an error while starting up.

I tried to change it to Catalog view earlier. Now I can't change it back to list or icon.

ARRRG!

Had the same problem. Solved it by editing the appropriate file in ~/.nautilus/metafiles. These files seems to be files used by Nautilus to remember which viewer to use (in XML format). I solved my problem by editing the 'default_component' in the troublesome file to be "OAFIID:Nautilus_File_Manager_Icon_View"

Hope that helps anyone finding this.
