can`t get network connectin in debian base

I have installed bebian base system (the latest, lenny i think) via netinstall.
Can`t get network connection to function. Tried refresh via ifconfig.
When i use ifconfig without parameters the network adress is a loopback adress 127.0.0.1. Have ruled out hardware as a issue so it have to be software. Some clues anyone? :-)

I have an fiberconnection (broadband). I get my ip adress from DHCP provided by my ISP. During the installation i had a connection from DHCP that i specified during the installation proccess. I have another pc that works fine with this connection.
The installation was done with a netinstall cd (iso file downloaded from linux.org).
I don`t use any router or hub

Did you have a network during install ?
Do you connect using a router, modem, DHCP...

We need more information. What is the nature of your Internet connection? Have you had a connection before this installation? Describe the connection and whether you specified DHCP or static addressing during the installation.
