can't use dial-up in RH9 w/o logging as root
hello everyone... i'm a new poster and a total n00b in Linux... i got a copy of RH9 from a friend of mine, the installion went really soomthly (dual-boot w/ WinMe 4 the rest of my family)... except for my modem wich btw is a PC-Tel winmodem
well... after seraching a bit on the net... I found the drivers I needed but for install them I had to use insmod and lsmod which I can't use (I guess) if I'm not logged as root.. so I had to install as the root. By now, I got the net thing working very well, I use the X-app Network Devices Control of RH9 (or something, I'm using the spanish version) to connect; but it just doesn't seem to work as a different user w/ less priviliges.. for example when I try to use it as my regular user account ("seudohacker"), the dialog "activating network device ppp0" hangs around and I never connect... Do I have to active a perimission (somewhere) in order to connect as a different user?? (I've done it already in /dev/modem) or there's something else I'm missing Any help would be appreciated Thanks, Javier Loza :newbie: |
