can't unmount cd's in kde

I'm running fedora core 2 on my machine.My default window manager is KDE.My problem is that after I mount a cd,I can't get KDE to unmount it.It always gives the device busy message.I didnt have any windows or apps running that were accessing the cd.Still I was getting the error.I logged in as root.Please advise

there is a command called lsof that can tell what program is accessing the cd , if u dont have it then download it and close the program thats using the cd

You should change the CDROM lines in the fstab.

First, in /etc/fstab get rid of the word "kudzu" on the cdrom line.

Second, in /etc/fstab change the word owner to users on the cdrom line

save it and it should let you unmount and eject now.

Here's mine:

/dev/cdrom              /mnt/cdrom              iso9660 noauto,users,ro 0 0
/dev/cdrom1             /mnt/cdrom1             iso9660 noauto,users,ro 0 0

this may depend on which version of KDE you're using...

As far as I know, versions prior to 3.2 had a bug which prevented unmounting of CD's - at least, it would take ages before a device was released.

I had this with 3.1.4 on SuSE 9.0; upgrading to KDE 3.2 sorted the problem.

Thanks for the pointers guys.Editing the fstab helped get over it.
