Can't sudo update-grub...read only

Hi
In recovery mode trying to update my grub
When I issue
Code:
$sudo update-grub
I see
Quote:
/usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig: 250: /usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig: cannot create /boot/grub/grub.cfg.new: Read only

this is because the partition containing the /boot/grub folder has probably been mounted read only, possibly bbecause of disk errors you need to fix any errors and remount the disk r/w, try boooting from a live cd or a different partition, fix any errors and try again

that is a tell tell sign that you need to do something first other than try to install or update your grub. how did you get yourself into Recovery mode?
