We're going to need a lot more information that that. Computer, Distro, lines before and after the error, which Bootloader, How far into the boot it gets. etc., etc.

What exactly...

The computer goes through the POST sequence and then what happens exactly? Are you using a desktop or booting into runlevel 3? What are any error messages you receive? More information is needed.

the boot sequence is as follows:-
Localhost login: user (automatic login)
Last login: the Date on tty1
[[2~-bash: id command not found
intel_rng: FWH not detected
pciehp: Device 000:02:00.0 already exists at 2:0,cannot hot-add
pciehp: cannot add device 0x2:0
pciehp: Device 000:03:00.0 already exists at 2:0,cannot hot-add
pciehp: cannot add device 0x3:0

Hope this is a bit more helpful
Thanking you
Paul

Ah, okay; thats fair enough. Its not id where the problem is (Thats a problem with your $PATH).

The problem is where it tries to handle PCI stuff. Whats in your PCI slots?

Sorry I'm not that computer savvy, where do I find my PCI slots, is it on F2 or F12?

Bit of background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pci_express

Though it occurs to me, I never asked you the important one. What happens? Does it stall at some message? What is the last thing you see on the screen before you have to reboot?

I don't know, ask the OP. Presumably OP was unsure on what a PCI slot was, or has his/her wireless card in one and one of these buttons controls that.

Its not a big jump in logic to assume OP is unsure or confused, this is why we ask questions of course.

Hi again, I don't have any cards plugged in or extra's added it is still in the some state as when it was bought and the last line before I have to re-boot is as mentioned on a previous quote.
Thanks
Paul

So to clarify,
Code:
pciehp: cannot add device 0x3:0
Is the last thing before it hangs?

yes, as far as I can see, the full list of lines comes up one by one and then nothing else and I have to reboot as nothing else is happening.
Thanks
Paul

Has it always done this? Or have you changed something recently? Did it always do that autologin?
