Is this the project you are thinking of?
It seems to be geared more towards thin clients, but it might work in this instance. It would require heavy tweaking though. You mention VNC again, but you have to remember I'm new to this. I don't know what other distributions are available on CentOS or linux in general. Did you have one in mind? As for the spice make problems, I've not gotten an answer from the spice-devel list. It looks like spice is not going to be the solution I need.

I am aware of tightvnc and realvnc(not on linux) and there is another one by default in the Debian repository. ltsp is what I was thinking of. I haven't deployed it but I think it is a little more mature than spice and built on an all ready existing technology, so you might fare better.

I did finally get spice to work. Turns out the errors in make were happening because it was trying to install qemu which is already included in the CentOS kernel. All I needed to do was skip that step.

Thanks for the info about the other VNCs. The performance on spice leaves something to be desired, so I may check into them. But for the moment I'm going to try and work with it.
