Can't run .pl files

I'm a Linux NEWbie..........

Just started with Mandrake 10.1 community and installed it in my VMWARE.
The problem I'm havin' is when I try to run my .pl file for my VMWARE-TOOLS
I get a message: 'Cannot display location' (This is directly in KDE (logged in as root))

Now when I try to do this directly through the command line (again logged in as root) I get a big permission denied!

What am I doin' !!!
Do I have the wrong command?
Or do I need a particular software package that I did not in stall?

Thanks for the help!!!!
