Can't run live cd on dual boot
 
I have linux mepis and xp dual booted with grub bootloader. I am unable to run a live cd. If I put in Knoppix cd as an example, it will not boot into knoppix instead I am taken to the grub boot loader where I have the choice of linux or windows. I tried reinstalling grub but it does the same thing. This just started by the way. My computer is set to boot from cd, suggestions appreciated.

grub is irrelevent to the problem. You can get this problem either if the BIOS does not have the CD ahead of the hard drive in the boot sequence or if the CD in the CD reader is not bootable. Boot into Linux and see if the knoppix CD is readable. Maybe it got scratched or smudged or something. Check the BIOS boot sequence.

The boot sequence is set correctly in the BIOS, the cd's are readable, this is something that just happened as I have been booting with various live cd's to try them out.

My big problem is windows is corrupt and I can't access it, so I need to get in that windows partition to either reinstall it or add another linux os. I need to be able to boot from a cd to do either one of those options. Any ideas how to do that? Thanks for the help.
