Unhappy can't open xlsm files on MS Word using Wine, please help


" The Office open Xlm file ****.xlsm cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents."
No error detail available.

It could well be a corrupt document. If I were you I would send it to a friend who's running MS Office in Windows and ask them to see if they can open the document or not. That way, you will find out if the problem is with the document or your ecosystem.

By the way, have you considered running MS Office in a VirtualBox Windows VM? You will find that this causes you less hassle than running it under Wine.

Hi thanx for swift reply.
I have been using this same document as a template for last 4 months and never had a problem with it running on windows platform. It has macros and I think this is the cause of the problem. I really need to use this template occasionally, tried to open it with libre office but half of the option cells are empty and again this is due to macros being written differently.
I have never tried to run MSO in Virtual box, could you provide some info of how I could do that please.

Documents can go corrupt - I would still check it on a Windows platform if I were you.

You install VirtualBox. You set up a Windows virtual machine (Windows 7, for example). You install Microsoft Office in that VM.
