Can't open URL links in Thunderbird

I have Mozilla Thunderbird set as my default browser, but whenever I receive a link to a website, I can't open it. It does not activate for me to get to the websites when I double click the links.

And this goes for as well when Im on a webpage and I double click on Contact, it does not open up Thunderbird.

Im using Mandrake Linux. Whats going on?

Nothing is going on. This feature isn't implemented yet, for linux. But Thunderbird for win already does that. They shall fix it soon, I guess.

But you can fix it for yourself, it seems:

If you mean to click on a link while in Thunderbird and have it open up Firefox, then this thread put me onto a solution....

I modified the procedure abit for my machine and here are my notes...
1- Create a shell script called "" in /usr/lib/thunderbird-0.6 containing the following lines :

export MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME="/usr/lib/firefox-0.9.3"

if [ "x$url" = "x" ]; then
url="about :blank"

if $MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME/mozilla-xremote-client openURL\("$url, new-tab"\); then
exit 0
exec $MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME/firefox "$url"

2- chmod +x /usr/lib/thunderbird-0.6/

3- Put these lines in the file /usr/lib/thunderbird-0.6/defaults/pref/all.js

// Use firefox for http, https & ftp links
pref("", "/usr/lib/thunderbird-0.6/");
pref("", "/usr/lib/thunderbird-0.6/");
pref("", "/usr/lib/thunderbird-0.6/");

4- Copy mozilla-xremote-client from /usr/lib/thunderbird-0.6 to /usr/lib/firefox-0.9.3
Also, to make Thunderbird the default email client, I opened up
Control Center
KDE Components
Component Chooser
Default Component
X Use a different email client >>> Thunderbird

getting thunderbird to open urls instead of saving them as files

I had a problem where thunderbird was opening firefox, saving the url as a file and doing nothing with firefox, just leaving a blank window.

I changed /etc/mozilla-thunderbird/global-config.js [which is symlinked to as all.js from a number of places] uncommenting the following two lines

// pref("","mozilla-firefox");
// pref("","mozilla-firefox");

Once that was done - restart and off you go!
