Unhappy can't open desktop items in Gnome 2.2

Gnome does not response anymore on double click on desktop items (or right mouse-click and open). Opening files using the start menu -> system -> file manager -> home is no problem at all. Logged in as another user there are no problems at all.
I am just very frustrated that I can't get this right - clearly this cannot a huge problem! Who can help? Thanks in advance...

No idea where this problem comes from. You could try copying some desktop-settings from other users to your own home-directory, because their settings seem to work.

You can find these settings in the home directory of such a user. They are hidden directories (starting with a . ). You can make them visible by changing a setting in nautilus (shouldn't be hard to find).

Hope that will help
